Enjoy the trails your own way.
Spectacular and rewarding views along the trail!
Last weekend I went to the mountain area of Jämtland and for the first time in my life in trekking context, I put on a race bib and lined up for start. Now, why on earth did I do that when my favorite thing about trekking is to enjoy the nature in my own pace? Well, I had signed up for a mountain marathon, not to prove myself as a runner or anything else for that matter really, but with the single purpose of having a great trekking day in the mountains and to enjoy it in a nice atmosphere. And truth to be told, this particular mountain marathon, Lundhags Öppet Fjäll, also offers something that I found tempting enough to line up for start with a smile on my lips.
The whole event is very well supported and the service stations along the way didn’t only offer some sport drink and bars. No, let me tell you. It was a whole menu of local delicacies, everything from traditional cinnamon buns, to reindeer meat and fried flat bread. So yes, I think this race was very well suited for a trekker like myself, maybe even better than for the runners 😉
Yummy and local produced delicacies.
There are lots of mountain races in Sweden during the summer. Often you can choose a full length course or a shorter one. For trekkers I would generally choose the shorter one, but I think it’s a fun way to meet some new people and to see how the mountains can be enjoyed in different ways.
